Facts are stubborn things. In the wake of the\u00a0Islamist attack<\/a>\u00a0in San Bernardino, Barack Obama trotted out the usual blame-the-gun rhetoric: \u201cWe have a pattern of mass shootings in this country with no parallel anywhere else in the world.\u201d That was after he claimed in a Tuesday press conference (in Paris, of all places), \u201cThis just doesn\u2019t happen in other countries.\u201d Repeat,\u00a0ad nauseum<\/em>. But is it really true? This doesn\u2019t happen in the Middle East, Africa and Asia? As you might guess whenever Obama opens his mouth, no, it\u2019s\u00a0not true<\/a>. The U.S. is pretty much in the middle of the pack for mass murder committed with firearms, both in the frequency and death rate. In fact, according to\u00a0gun researcher John Lott<\/a>, \u201cIn just 2015, France suffered more casualties \u2014 killings and injuries \u2014 from mass public shootings than the U.S. has suffered during Obama\u2019s\u00a0entire<\/em>\u00a0presidency (508 to 424).\u201d<\/p>\n

As for the number of mass shooting incidents in the U.S.,\u00a0we\u2019ve noted before<\/a>\u00a0that the Leftmedia uses completely BS statistics collected by anti-gun fanatics. How inflated are those numbers? The Mass Shooting Tracker website claims the San Bernardino attack was the 355th \u201cmass shooting\u201d this year, but its deliberately inflated definition includes, for example, non-fatal incidents with pellet guns and they count attackers in the number shot, dead or not. The Congressional Research Service, on the other hand, still defines \u201cmass killing\u201d widely \u2014 \u201cthree or more killings in a single incident\u201d \u2014 and even then there were 317 mass shootings \u2026\u00a0from 1999 to 2013<\/a><\/em>. That also doesn\u2019t distinguish between a random public mass murder and a man killing his wife and in-laws. Overall, firearms-related homicides have dropped dramatically over the last two decades, all while gun ownership has greatly increased.<\/p>\n

So what do Democrats do? Propose the same old \u201cuniversal background checks\u201d idea that would do nothing to stop the two San Bernardino terrorists \u2014 or most other deranged killers. They want to ban \u201cassault rifles,\u201d too, though California law is already especially strict on this. And there are\u00a0reports<\/a>\u00a0that the couple modified at least one rifle in an attempt to make it fully automatic. Such modification is illegal in\u00a0all<\/em>\u00a0states, but by all means let\u2019s make it\u00a0super illegal<\/em>\u00a0this time. Oh, and\u00a0using<\/em>\u00a0any kind of firearm to murder people is illegal everywhere, too, but that doesn\u2019t ever seem to stop murderous psychos.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, leftists go out of their way to\u00a0shame those who pray<\/a>\u00a0for the victims. Tolerance, indeed, and facts be damned along the way.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
